Bothersome CP Question
I'm a member of Tripoli MN and an aero student at the U of M. Recently, I was approved to use the campus wind tunnel for odd rocs (mainly spool rockets) and anything else I can get by on the side. Anyway, the embarrassment started with my report write-up. I said that I intended to mount a rocket at 0 angle of attack, perturb the model to measure a moment, and back calculate the location of the CP.
Okay, the question: my prof said that the CP is a function of angle of attack, and that my idea could be invalidated as I'd be getting the CP at an angle - not the zero angle of attack CP. Is this true, and if so, how do guys with wind tunnels measure the CP? If anyone has any ideas, I'd love to hear them! Thanks.
David
